Talking dogs on their way to Sony’s portable
Sony has revealed PlayStation Vita Pets, a pet sim that puts players in charge of talking dogs.
PS Vita Pets features two main elements; virtual pet mechanics and adventure gameplay. Typical activities like bathing, dressing up, training, learning tricks, stroking, feeding and walking will be mixed in with adventures away from home.
“We set out to make something that was more than just a pet sim – we wanted to make something that felt like a real game, with characters, fun and adventure,” said creative director Kevin Oxland.
“Once you’ve gotten to know each other and learned the skills needed to venture outside the safety of your home you’ll be able to embark on the adventure of Castlewood Island,” he explained.
Adventures will have players and their talking pet solve puzzles and explore new environments including a forest, ‘spooky old mines’ and graveyards, and “ultimately make your way to the legendary castle in the centre of the island”.
The game will also have augmented reality features – making use of the Vita’s cameras – but Oxland held off details.
The game is in development at UK studio Spiral House, which assisted in the development of Motorstorm and LittleBigPlanet, and developed EyePet and EyePet Adventures on PSP.
PS Vita Pets will be released across Europe in 2014. A US release went unmentioned.
