Skullgirls team laid off, form Lab Zero Games, offer update on PC version and DLC

The development team behind 2D fighting game Skullgirls has founded a new studio, Lab Zero Games. The game’s creators, despite being laid off from the original studio that created Skullgirls, say their work on the downloadable fighting game will continue.

Lab Zero Games writes on its newly launched website that it intends to continue its work on Skullgirls in addition to developing new, unannounced games. Publisher Autumn Games, which owns the rights to Skullgirls, is said to be “fully behind the new studio” and will work with Lab Zero on future development and merchandise.

The change in development studios has resulted in a delay of the PC port of Skullgirls and “indefinitely delayed” the release of downloadable characters Squigly and Umbrella for the game.

“Don’t take this as a sign that we’ve given up,” Lab Zero writes. “We haven’t, and are doing everything in our power and then some to resume work on these as soon as possible.

“Even though this change was largely out of our control, the Skullgirls team still sincerely apologizes for the delays and lack of information in recent months.”

Skullgirls was released on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network in April.
