Some Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 players on PlayStation 3 are running into problems redeeming their pre-order DLC codes, connecting to online matches and playing without the game crashing, according to forum posts and tweets directed toward Treyarch and Activision.
A seemingly common issue is that of redeeming codes for Nuketown 2025 and Nuketown Zombies, the maps that came with all pre-orders and with the special edition pre-orders, respectively. According to Activision’s support hotline on Twitter, there isn’t a problem with the codes themselves. “This is due to heavy traffic, keep trying your code periodically it will eventually work,” Activision has said in reply tocountless Twitter users.
One user on the European PlayStation forums reported that a PlayStation Network customer support representative “confirmed that there is a issue with the codes and mine [has] been used in [Germany].” Yet in response to a player receiving a message that their code had already been redeemed, the Activision support account on Twitter insisted that was not the case.
Many players are also reporting issues with getting into multiplayer games, such as a persistent “waiting to balance teams” message in online lobbies. According to Black Ops 2 design director David Vonderhaar, Treyarch is currently working on that problem, which is separate from last night’s common message of “an error occurred while trying to find a session.” That problem was solved after “investigating something with our partners at Sony” and deploying “black magik” back-end matchmaking changes.
Lastly, Vonderhaar and Treyarch are aware of a “significant freeze” that affects PS3 players; one reported that his game had crashed “almost 10 times.” According to Vonderhaar, the studio has addressed the crashing issues, and the game’s next patch will include the fix.
